Abstract

1277782 Knitting COURTAULDS Ltd 21 July 1969 [22 July 1968] 36541/69 Divided out of 1265308 Headings D1C and D1K In a method of knitting a sleeved garment the sleeves, including reciprocatory knit shoulder portions, and the body are knitted separately and then joined on the machine. Adjacent portions of the shoulders and upper body portions are narrowed. Each portion is knit on a separate pair of beds, and adjacent portions of the shoulders and body are narrowed when the portions are complete. The shoulder pair of beds are moved relative to the body pair so that transfer by points and loop doubling can take place. In one example the loop originally on the needle is arranged below the latch, and the transferred loop is taken by the hook. The transferred loop is pulled through the old loop and is ready for a subsequent joining operation. In a further example both loops are arranged in the hook of the needle which is then raised to land the loops on a spreader. A needle of a linking mechanism is inserted through the loops, which are then cast off. A further transfer is made before the steps are repeated.
