Abstract

1277307 Walking machines EISENWERK WESERHUTTE AG 19 Sept 1969 [27 Sept 1968 (3)] 46179/69 Heading B7H A "walking" apparatus for transporting heavy loads comprises a load-supporting frame 7 and a carrying means comprising at least one base-plate 8 movable relative to the frame, lifting stays of variable length connecting the frame to the or each base-plate and driving stays each connected to the frame by a universal joint at one end and to the carrying means at the other end for pivotal motion in any direction relative to the associated base-plate, the connection being spaced from the connection between the associated base-plate and lifting stay. The other end of the driving stay is connected either to a base plate at a location away from any connection of a lifting stay to the base-plate (Fig. 4), or to a lifting stay at a location away from any connection of the lifting stay to a baseplate (Fig. 1). The lengths of the stays may be varied by pneumatic or hydraulic piston-andcylinder arrangements. One or more driving stays may be of fixed length to act as a stabilizer, or may be replaced by other types of stabilizers.
