Abstract
1277020 Engine stop gear C A V Ltd 14 Nov 1969 [3 Dec 1968] 57320/68 Heading F1K In an I. C. engine installation in which the engine 10 receives combustion air from a turbinedriven compressor 11 and fuel from a fuel supply device, e.g. a carburetter or an injection pump 12 as shown, a normally-closed valve 15 is opened automatically when the discharge pressure of the compressor exceeds a predetermined value, e.g. due to excessive engine speed, so that air from the compressor is delivered to the fuel supply device to purge fuel from the inlet region thereof and thereby shut-off the fuel supply to the engine. The purged fuel is forced through a relief valve 17 back into fuel tank 18. The injection pump 12 receives fuel from the tank 18 via a lift pump 13, e, g. of the diaphragm type, and a filter 14. Preferably the valve 16 is designed to remain open so that the fault must be investigated before restarting the engine.
