Abstract

1276476 Bearings; seals SKF COMPAGNIE D'APPLICATIONS MECANIQUES 19 April 1971 [13 Feb 1970] 21780/71 Headings F2A and F2B The outer ring 2 of a radial rolling bearing is provided with an annular groove 3 so shaped that by applying a force to the periphery of an annular seal 4 in a direction substantially parallel to the axis of the bearing, the seal can be deformed in an outward radial direction into the groove to retain the seal in the bearing. The seal is of thermoplastics material, such as polyamide with 30% by weight glass fibre, and is deformed at intervals around the periphery by the application of a punch 5 with teeth 6 heated to 160‹ C. with a pressure of 200 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> for a period of less than one second.
