Abstract

1276283 Direction finding OPTICAL INSTRUMENTS (BALHAM) Ltd 19 April 1971 [12 March 1970] 12006/70 Heading G1F A magnetic compass 6 is clamped within the casing 1 of a telescope or one part of a binocular telescope behind the objective lens 2 so that the compass scale 7 will be seen through the eye-piece 5 superimposed on the field of view, the scale 7 being illuminated by an electric lamp 12. A nut 9 on an externally screw-threaded lens tube 11 rigid with the compass casing bears against a bridge member 8 to clamp the compass casing against a shoulder 10 of the telescope casing 1. A lens 26 in the tube 11 superimposes an image of the compass scale 7 on the image of the object viewed. The lamp 12, mounted on the compass 6, has a mirror 15 and a bulb 13 energized by a battery (not shown) mounted transversely of the other part of the binocular. Preferably coaxial cable is used to reduce magnetic disturbance.
