Abstract

1,274,742. Cutting poultry carcases. ROSS POULTRY Ltd. 7 Jan., 1970 [21 Jan., 1969], No. 3344/69. Heading A2U. Poultry carcases are halved by a machine comprising, in one embodiment, an endless bandsaw 1, a motor-driven drum 15 divided to admit the saw and having two rows of spikes 16 to engage the carcase 11 on either side of the backbone to feed the carcase to the saw, and means for supporting and positioning the carcase relatively to the saw. The latter means comprises a stainless-steel feed bar 12 which passes through the carcase and has a pair of vanes 13 spaced to accommodate the neck portion of the carcase, a freerunning V-roller 10 of nylon &c to receive the breast bone, and a leg-supporting plate 7 mounted on a pedestal 9. A carcase is fed along the bar 12 by an operator applying pressure to the legs 22 which pass on either side of the plate 7 which is tapered towards the operator. A plate 23 rotated by an electric motor 24 co-operates with a stationary guide 25 to deliver the halved carcases to a container &c. In a modification, the band saw is replaced by a pair of rotary blades and the carcase halves are delivered down a chute. The blades, in the form of discs rotating in opposite directions in a common plane, enter a slot in the feed bar 12.
