Abstract

1,274,394. Gripper attachments for lift trucks. CLARK EQUIPMENT CO. 17 Sept., 1970 [24 Nov., 1969], No. 44372/70. Heading B8H. Each clamp arm of a gripper attachment for a lift truck consists of an inverted L-shaped plate 78 pivotally mounted in bearings 84 on a plate 70 which is secured to, or pivotally mounted on, a member 46 secured to guides 34 which are slidable under the action of double-acting rams 40, 42 in a housing 28. The plates 78 are urged to a toe-out position by torsion bars, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), or by leaf-springs, Figs. 5, 7 (not shown), the arrangement being such that when the plates are aligned they together provide a substantially planar gripping surface, which may be provided with a rubber facing. The gripper plates may be mounted so as to be tiltable laterally, Fig. 6 (not shown). The plates 78 are flexible and provided with strengthening plates 80. The gripper attachment may be used to stabilize a load on a fixed support.
