Abstract

1,272,087. Handling sheets. ADDRESSOGRAPH - MULTIGRAPH CORP. 13 May, 1969 [7 June, 1968], No. 24372/69. Heading B8R. [Also in Divisions B6 and G2] A photoconductive sheet 28 is charged at 81, imagewise exposed at 50, has surplus charge removed by lamps 150, and is clamped to a drum 52 which repeatedly rotates past a developing station 56 and a transfer station 58 to produce copies on sheets 34; sheet 28 being ejected when a preselected number of copies has been made, or at the discretion of the operator. Before use, the operator adjusts a mirror 96 and lens 98 according to whether a reduced or same-size copy is required. This adjustment makes one of switches 90 and 92 operable. In use, a sheet 28 is fed by a roll 76, trips a switch 80 to disable roll 76, is fed past charger 81 and trips switches 90 and 92. Switch 90 or 92 energizes xenon lamps 94 for imagewise exposure and also energizes a time delay (321 or 324, Fig. 12, not shown) which operates surplus charge clearing lamps 150 as the trailing edge of the sheet passes the delay being determined by which of switches 90, 92 has been made operable by the adjustment of the optical system. Switch 90 or 92 also energizes a time delay (326) which on timing out de-energizes the charger 81 and sheet feed rolls 72 to 75 and energizes a motor 154. Motor 154 rotates drum 52 so that a follower 198 (Fig. 5) moves away from a cam 202 allowing springs 182 to close a clamp 176 on the edge of the sheet. Motor 154 also starts feeding copy sheets 34. The drum rotates past an electrically biased magnetic brush 56 and a transfer roll 58 comprising a metal shaft having a semi-conduction shell and the developed images are fixed by rolls 268, 270. When a copy counter (44) or manual switch (329) are operated, a cam 206 engages follower 198 to release the sheet 28 which is fed out with a copy sheet to prevent developer offset on to transfer roll 58. A solenoid (258, Figs. 11, 12, not shown) then disables the copy sheet feed and finally motor 154 is deenergized.
