Abstract

1,271,790. Boring earth and rock. INSTITUT GORNOGO DELA SIBIRSKOGO OTDELENIA AKADEMII NAUK SSSR. 11 Dec., 1970, No. 58890/70. Heading E1F. A device for reaming out a previously formed hole 15 in the ground comprises a member 18, Fig. 5, adapted to be driven along the hole and a reamer 19 having orifices 22, 23 through which cuttings 29 can enter a chamber 20 prior to being blown out forwardly through the hole 15 by a stream of compressed air. The flushing air is supplied from a line 28. The member 18 may be a percussive device driven by compressed air from a line 27. If clogging occurs, excess pressure in the chamber is relieved by deformation of a resilient wall 26. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2, the reamer comprises ring cutters 4 mounted in radial ribs 5. Flushing air is supplied from a valve 11 in a line 10 feeding a percussive device 2 and passes through angled nozzles 13 in a plate 12 causing the latter to rotate relative to the member 2. The percussive device exhausts into the reamer.
