Abstract

1,271,563. Washing knitted webs. VEPA A.G. 1 Dec., 1969 [9 Dec., 1968], No. 58571/ 69. Heading D1L. Washing liquid 4 is passed through a knitted web 12 during passage round a rotatable sieve drum 3, the web being attached at its edges to endless tenter chains 15, excess liquid being removed by a squeezing unit or a slotted vacuum tube 23 arranged after the drum and on the side of the web towards the drum and the liquid being recirculated from inside the drum. The chains, which preferably enter the liquid perpendicularly, pass through adjustable guide rings 19 which may be attached to baffle plates for limiting the width of the vacuum slot. The web passes over driven thread fingers 13 and is brushed onto the chains by brushes 14. Vapours are extracted through suction tubes 17 and 18 which lead to a liquid recovery plant. A plurality of drums may be arranged side by side, each in a separate compartment (Fig. 3). The web may be carried to a drying apparatus on a belt 24.
