Abstract

1,270,623. Feeding sheets. HENRY SIMON Ltd. 23 Dec., 1970 [17 Feb., 1970], No. 7445/70. Heading B8R. A pile separating means, e.g. a driven roller 32, which in operation separates sheets, e.g. corrugated boards, from the top of a pile S and feeds them to conveyer means, e.g. inclined endless belts 23 and horizontal endless belts 14, 19, forming a conveyer of adjustable length, is provided with control means for sensing the pile height and for lowering the separating means as the pile is consumed and raising it for reception of a new pile. At the beginning of a pile separating cycle sheets are separated relatively quickly until a limit switch S4 indicates a stack of certain height has been formed on the table 10a of a sheet processing machine 10 and starts the machine 10, the speed of separation and conveyance then being slowed down. Separating roller 32 descends under its own weight as the pile S is consumed until its mounting arm 33 pivotally attached to the end of the inclined endless belt conveyer 23 actuates a limit switch S3, this causing an hydraulic motor 28 to pivot the endless belts 23 downwardly about their drive roller 16 until arm 33 actuates limit switch S2. This intermittent lowering takes place until all sheets have been separated from a pile thus actuating a pile sensing limit switch S1 which causes the endless belts 23 and separating roller 32 to be raised to their uppermost position and roller conveyer 11 to drive a new pile into position.
