Abstract

1,270,495. Separating dirt from fibres. SCHUBERT & SALZER MASCHINENFABRIK A.G. 17 March, 1970 [20 March, 1969; 30 April, 1969], No. 12834/70. Heading B2H. [Also in Division D1] Dirt - laden fibres are fed to a spinning device 7 along a path having two portions set at an angle to each other so as to produce a change in the direction of movement of the fibres and to throw out dirt particles through a separating opening 6 at adjacent ends of the two portions of the path. As shown, dirt-laden fibre supply 5 is separated into individual fibres by toothed roller 2. These fibres are transported past the separating opening along a curved path and the dirt particles are thrown into collecting space 5 from where they are removed. An air current via duct 4 flows in the opposite direction to the separated dirt particles to keep the fibres flowing behind the separating edge 3. The angle between the adjustable separating edge 3 and a radius of roller 2 is preferably at least 30‹. The fibres are normally spun in device 7 but when spinning is to be discontinued the fibres can be fed through the separating opening instead of to the spinning device 7. In alternative embodiments: An additional air stream can be introduced immediately upstream of the separating opening (Fig. 4, 5, 6, 12, 13). The separating edge 3 can be curved or flattened (Figs. 2 and 3). The fibres can be passed along straight or curved duct portions at an angle to each other (Figs. 5, 6, 12, 13). The separating opening can be closed by a closure part when clean fibres are being spun (Figs. 7-13, parts 8, 83, 86 and 54). A plurality of spinning units may have ganged control for adjustment and dirt removal.
