Abstract

1,270,410. Bactericidal compositions. ALLOR CORP. 25 Sept., 1969, No. 47314/69. Headings ASB and A5E. . Compositions suitable for combating microorganisms in living tissue and cells comprise as active ingredient at least one colloidal metal dispersed in a carrier solution non-reactive to the metal, the metal being selected from Pt, Pd, Rh, Cu, Ru, Os, Ir, Tb, Pr, Ce, Th, Pa, U, Hf, W, V, Re, Zn, Cd, Hg, Au and Ag, the major proportion of the colloidal particles being from 10<SP>-5</SP> to 10<SP>-6</SP> cm in size. Some of the colloidal metal may be present as a chelate with a strychnine, brucine or reserpine alkaloid, the chelate being in part dissociated. The colloidal particles may be maintained unclustered or within the specified size range by irradiation, e.g. with γ- or x-rays. The compositions may be in forms suitable for topical application.
