Abstract
1,269,546. Hoists on ships; luffing booms. E. MONNECKE. 23 Oct., 1969 [24 Oct., 1968; 20 Dec., 1968], No. 52068/69. Heading B8H. Apparatus for transferring pilots, passengers or loads to and from the deck of a ship coinprises a cage 13 pivoted at the outer end of a boom 11 which is pivoted at its inner end, about an axis extending transversely of the ship, to a support mounted on the deck. In the embodiment shown, the boom is pivoted to a carriage 21 which is movable on a track, extending transversely of the ship, between an operative position, in which it extends beyond the side of the ship, and, when the boom has been raised by an hydraulic ram 26 to the broken-line position, an inoperative inboard position, in which the boom is supported on a stand 39. The outer end of the boom is provided with a roller engaging the side of the ship, and the pivot connection between the boom and the cage 13 is lockable by means of a handle 17. In modifications, Figs. 8, 9 (not shown), the boom consists of two articulated sections or three telescopic sections. In further embodiments, Figs. 10-15 (not shown), the boom is pivotally supported by articulated arms which are pivotally supported on the deck of the ship and which are adjustable to move the boom between the inboard and outboard positions. The boom may be raised and lowered by a winch mechanism mounted on a davit which is spaced along the deck from the boom support.
