Abstract

1,268,791. Pipe joints; valves. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE DES PETROLES S.A. 9 April, 1969 [9 Aug., 1968], No. 18161/69. Headings F2G, F2P and F2V. A device for connecting and disconnecting a pair of ducts 1, 3 comprises a body 5 defining a conduit 15 for coupling to the duet 1, a body 6 receivable in the body 5 and defining a conduit 11 for coupling to the duct 3, and a sleeve 7 receivable by the body 5 and located between opposed surfaces of the bodies at which the conduits 15, 11 open and including a passage 13. The sleeve is connected to one of the bodies so as to be movable relative thereto between a first position in which the passage 13 is in register with the conduit 15 and a second position in which the sleeve obturates the conduit, the body 6 being positionable relative to the sleeve with the conduit 11 therein in register with the passage so that, when the sleeve is in the first position thereof, the conduits are in communication the body 5 and the sleeve being movable relative to the body 6 to remove the body 5 from the body 6. In a modification, rotation of the sleeve is effected by a lever 38, Fig. 6, attached to a collar 39 carrying pins 43 engaging in slots 44 in the sleeve 42 so that movement of the lever raises the sleeve upon rotation of the sleeve, the sleeve subsequently dropping again to bear on the member 41; alternatively, an endless screw acts on the collar. A monitoring mechanism prevents rotation of the sleeve before removal of a ring which retains the sleeve in the duct-connecting position. A cable 47 attached to the inner member 49 guides that member along the axis of the sleeve. There may be an intermediate sleeve adapted to take up two positions, one in which the passages therein allows communication between the ducts, and the other wherein such communication is prevented; in this case after the sleeve bearing in the fixed body 5 has been lifted and rotated, the ducts of the body 6 are obturated when the body 6 has been withdrawn.
