A yarn sleeve, preferably of thermoplastic material, for the heat and/or wet treatment of threads and yarns, having a cylindrical or conical shell, is characterized in that the shell comprises consecutive rows of rigid ring sections 10 extending circumferentially and spaced apart in the axial and transverse directions of the sleeve, the ring sections 10 of consecutive rows of ring sections being offset relative to each other, and the end portions 15, 16 of adjacent offset ring sections 10 being connected by longitudinal webs 11, 12 elastically and/or plastically yieldable in the circumferential direction. The ring sections are preferably offset by one half of the axial spacing, and the webs 11, 12 are inclined to the axial direction of the sleeve so that any two axially consecutive webs form an obtuse angle in the direction of the end of the ring section to which they are connected. The webs 11, 12 may be weakened at the connection points to provide bending and buckling points. The ring sections may be connected by single webs which extend continuously from one end of the sleeve to the other. In a further embodiment, the ring sections in axially consecutive rows overlap circumferentially, the overlapping parts being connected by at least two parallel spaced webs. The sleeve reduces in both the axial and radial dimensions in response to either an axial or radial compressive force. In a preferred embodiment, the inner and outer edges of the ring sections form arcs of circles such that, prior to compression, the ring sections form an exactly circular cylindrical inner surface and after compression, the ring sections form an exactly circular cylindrical outer surface.
