A carpet-like material comprises (1) a composite base member including a lower facing sheet of paperboard, an upper corrugated sheet of paperboard secured to said lower facing sheet forming a plurality of flutes thereon, and a flock coating of fibrous material secured to said base member to form a pile-like coating thereon or (2), a lower liner, a corrugated medium attached thereto and an upper liner secured to said corrugated medium, a flock coating of fibrous material being adhesively secured to at least a portion of the surface of the upper liner to form a pile-like surface thereon. In (2) the upper liner may be embossed with a pattern of protuberances or may be perforated. The flutes formed by the underside of the corrugations and the base layer are optionally filled with a reinforcing material, such as polystyrene, polyurethanes or sawdust in combination with an adhesive or a plastics material such a latex. The flock coating may be applied to the valleys between the corrugations. The corrugated sheet and the lower sheet may be reinforced by impregnation with a modified phenol and/or urea formaldehyde resin. The corrugations may be inclined at an angle to the surface of the sheet. In (1) the flock may be attached to a further layer e.g. of extruded plastics, which may be perforated attached to the tops of the corrugations. Suitable flock is of cotton, rayon, cellulose or nylon.
