A cam mechanism for the conversion of continuous rotational motion into discontinuous rotational motion comprises two or more cams K1, K2 in spaced planes each associated with a single pair of follower rollers L1, L2 or driven members S1, S2 fixed at 90 degrees to each other on a driven shaft B. To provide positive control the arrangement is such that one roll of each pair is always in contact with its -associated cam thus allowing a large operating angle # of up to 180 degrees. Other arrangements providing operating angles between 30 and 180 degrees are shown in some of which both rollers of at least one pair are always in contact with their cam. The cams are of laminated fabric-reinforced synthetic plastics material or of plastics material.
