A curtain wall unit 33 or 34 each consisting of a single panel or two or more interconnected panels is located and secured in a chosen position in each of three mutually perpendicular planes by suspension from a channelled rail 10 attached horizontally to a frame 2 of a building by mounting and adjusting devices; each comprising a hanger 15 having a clampable connection, such as nut 14 and bolt 13, slidable along the rail channel and having a limb with a pin and slot connection with an arm 26 secured perpendicularly to the wall unit permitting the arm and limb to be slidable in spaced, mutually superimposed relation parallel, to each other and means for releasably securing the pin against sliding in the slot 16, the pin being an extension 17 of an adjustment screw 18 for altering the spacing between the parallel arm and limb. As shown the vertical uprights of the wall units have an S-shaped cross-section 28 the inner loops of which receive U- or Z-shaped lower and upper panel frame members 40, 41. Typically the wall units comprise a lower panel 59 formed by sheets of metal surrounding framed heat or sound insulating material and a glazed panel provided with a fixed pane 56 and horizontally sliding sashes 49 (see also Fig. 3 not shown). Elongate sheet members 31, 32 of U- and M-shaped cross-section are provided to join and conceal adjacent forward upright edges of the wall units, and an interior joint cover strip (63, Figs. 3 to 5 not shown) may be provided.
