[Also in Group XXV] A partition comprises hollow metallic frame members of rectangular section with undercut longitudinal grooves in each side face, and panels held in the frames by fixing elements having projections which slidably engage in the grooves in the frame members. The vertical frame members may be of square section as at 9, 10 with four grooves 12-15 in each face or of rectangular section having adjacent sides unequal and with four grooves in the wider faces and only two grooves 12, 15 in the narrower faces. An upper horizontal frame member 47 is secured to the ceiling by means of a U-section member 19, Fig. 6, with the ends of its limbs fitted in the grooves 12, 15 and with a set screw 23 securing it to the frame member. The member 19 is fitted in the lower end of a tube 56 having its upper end closed by a nut 57 on a threaded stud 55 fixed to the upper flooring 54. A pin 59 passes through a hole in the base of the member 19 and through the wall of the tube to secure the member within the tube. Similar members 19 secure the horizontal and vertical frame members together, Fig. 8 (not shown). The lower frame member 48 is screwed to the floor 49 at 50, 51. A glass pane 8 may be held in the frame by flat strips 43 engaged in the grooves 13, 14 and provided with flexible tubular facings 44 of rubber or plastic material contacting opposite faces of the pane. In a modification, Fig. 4, the pane is held between rubber or plastic strips 39, 40 engaging in the grooves 13, 14, the strip 40 having a tongue 42 disposed between the pane and the frame. A door 1 is hinged to the joint 10 by means of an L-shaped element 30 having perpendicular tongues 31, 32 engaging in grooves on adjacent faces of the jamb. The door may be a simple glass pane or may have a metal frame. The edges of the door abut against tubular rubber or plastic facings 36 on flanged members 33 which are fitted in grooves in the jambs. The door sill has a similar sealing strip. A sub-ceiling 60 is supported by L-section brackets 61 having tongues 63, 64 hooked into grooves 12, 15 in the upper frame member 47.
