Abstract
1,264,304. Knitting. BENTLEY MACHINE DEVELOPMENT CO. Ltd. 3 Dec., 1969 [6 Dec., 1968], No. 57963/68. Headings D1C and D1K. A knitted tube, e.g. stocking is closed by a double welt constricted by a plurality of loops of yarn 16 a-f each partly encircling the welt fold, and together wholly encircling it. The encirling loops are obtained by directing all needles to an inactive level, and then raising different small arcs 15 of needles at succeeding courses. This causes yarn to extend from the trailing needle 15a of the group, around the tube 19 to constrict it, e.g. 16b and then to rejoin the first of the active needles 17. The yarn is then knit again and at a subsequent arc where the proceedure is repeated to form the next loop 16c. The yarn is laid in or knitted along the intermediate arc 18. When sufficient loops have been formed the held welt loops are returned to the needles. The tube is completely closed when it is drawn onto a form, which tightens the loops.
