Abstract

1,263,359. Vacuum switches; switchgear structures. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 16 July, 1969 [22 July, 1968], No. 35759/69. Heading H1N. In a vacuum circuit breaker substantially of the type disclosed in Specification 1,091,359 in which large transverse forces are applied to longitudinally sliding contact support rods 76, Fig. 4, through a linkage 132, 146, Figs. 4, 5, the tubular envelope 62 is rigidly supported at the actuator end only as by a bracket 88b attached to the framework (80), Fig. 1 (not shown) of the horizontally withdrawable carriage (26) by which the assembly is isolated from the bus-bars (30) and supply leads (45). The bracket 88b is supported by two insulators 86 mounted at right angles one of which carries a contact stud 95 of the isolating carriage and extending perpendicularly to a plane through the axis of the tubular envelope 62. The fixed contact support 70 is mounted on an end plate 68 of the tubular envelope 62 which forms the sole support for the contact 70. Electrical connection between the studs 96 of the carriage and the fixed contact 70 is made through a flexible lead 88c. The arrangement is stated to reduce the bending loads on the joint 73 for the mounting plate 72. The flexible linkage 146 &c. and multiple busbar arrangements are described in the above Specification 1,091,359.
