Abstract

1,263,236. Scaffolding joints. KWIKFORM Ltd. 8 July, 1970 [26 July, 1967; 24 Jan., 1970], Nos. 3547/70 and 3546/70. Heading E1S. In a scaffolding transom 10 of the type having at its end clamping means 11 for securing the transom detachably to an upright tube 12, and a recess 21 for receiving a ledger 22 which is inserted downwardly therein, a ledger clamping element mounted on the transom adjacent the recess 21 comprises a movable clamping member 26 having a ledger retaining portion 31, which clamping member 26 is movable between a free position and a clamping position in which the ledger 22 is pressed against the upright tube 12 and the retaining portion 31 extends over a part of the ledger 22 to retain it against lifting out of the recess 21. The clamping member 26 is preferably pivoted at 25 to a channel section bracket 14 by means of which the clamping means 11 is mounted on the transom 10, and a clamping screw 32 mounted on the web of the bracket 14 bears on the clamping member 26. Alternatively (Fig. 6, not shown), the clamping member 26 may be of channel section, and the screw 32 is then rotatably connected to the web of the clamping member 26 for positive displacement thereof in either direction. The clamping member 26 may be substantially L-shaped, as shown. The clamping means 11 (Fig. 2, not shown) may comprise a U-section body 13 to which are pivoted a cap extending around the upright tube 12 and a clamping bolt 17 engaging with the cap.
