Abstract

1,262,666. Rock drills. ATLAS COPCO A.B. 10 March, 1969 [12 March, 1968], No. 12474/69. Heading B3C. [Also in Division F2] A support boom structure for a rock drill comprises a boom 10 swingable by hydraulic cylinders (not shown) laterally and vertically, a boom head 11 swingable by cylinder (not shown) via rod 17 about axis 15, a carrier 12 swingable by cylinder 19 about axis 16 which is perpendicular to axis 15, and a feed bar 13 slidable relative to the carrier by means of hydraulic cylinder 23. The carrier 12 comprises a casing 25 containing an hydraulic motor 30 and a plate 22 connected to journal members 24, 26 which are rotated relative to the casing 25 by the motor to pivot the feed bar about a third axis parallel to the feed bar axis. The motor comprises a piston 34 with a longitudinally splined rod 37 and a helically splined rod 32, which rods respectively co-operate with a longitudinally splined head 36 and a helically splined nut 33. The head 36 is fixed with respect to the casing 25 and the nut is mounted in one end of a rotatable driving member 41 which at its other end engages with the journal 24. Hydraulic fluid fed to either side of the piston 34 displaces the piston and thus effects rotation of the feed bar with respect to the casing 25. A lock valve 50 maintains the feed bar fixed with respect to the casing 25 until fluid is fed via conduit 48<SP>11</SP> or 4911, valve 52 or 51 and conduit 481 or 491 to move the piston 34. During piston movement the other conduit 49<SP>1</SP> or 481 is connected via valve 51 or 52 and conduit 49<SP>11</SP> or 48<SP>11</SP> to a sump. Flow of fluid in conduits 4811, 49<SP>11</SP> is controlled by a four way valve (not shown). In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown) the carrier 12 is positioned with the axes of the boom and the axis 16 lying in a vertical plane. A further embodiment includes a telescopic boom and the feed bar in this embodiment can be adjusted out of parallel alignment with the carrier by means of piston/cylinder (61), the feed bar being pivotally connected to the rear journal member (26), and yet another embodiment (Fig. 9, not shown) includes a frame (60) mounted on a first carrier (62) similar to carrier 12 and a second carrier (63) parallel to the first carrier and mounted on the frame. The feed bar is mounted on the second carrier.
