Abstract

1,262,551. Playback of stationary records. R. R. E. NILSSON. 4 Feb., 1969, No. 5896/69. Heading G5R. A sound track on a record which carries also corresponding written characters is engaged by a playback head through an opening in a housing which is placed in contact with the record and contains the head and means for driving it continuously in a closed path so that the playback of the sound track is repeated automatically. As shown, in a playback device a head 22 and two switches 30, 40 are mounted in a block 15 which rotates on a shaft 11 driven by a motor 6. When the device is placed on a stiff record card U, Fig. 9, a spring-loaded button 17 is pressed inwards to move switch 30 into a position where it can be operated by impact with a boss 61. The record card U carries a sound track T, with the text written at P on an index scale S, with reference marks R for locating the playback device or holes for receiving locating pins. Index levers 7, 3 adjust the positions of bosses 60, 61, 63 to operate the switches 30, 40 so that the playback head 22 is operative during a selected portion of each revolution. A single record card may carry a plurality of sound tracks (Figs. 10 and 11), each with its written text and reference marks. The head 22 is connected through slip-rings (45, 46, Fig. 6) and brushes (48, 49) and a cable 14 to an amplifier and aloud-speaker (Fig. 7) or to a microphone and an amplifier if the device is to be used for recording. The device may contain more than one head and may be driven through speedreducing means and a flexible cable from a gramophone turntable.
