Abstract
1,258,070. Roller conveyers. DEMAG-ZUG G.m.b.H. 24 Dec., 1968 [29 March, 1968], No. 61438/68. Heading B8A. [Also in Division H2] The rollers of a roller conveyer are subjected to eddy current braking proportional to their rotational speed by a shaft 17 mounted in frictional engagement with the roller 13 and of a smaller diameter than the roller to effect an increase in the rotational speed thereof, a permanent magnet 6 mounted on the shaft and a non-magnetic, electrical conducting plate 7 fixedly mounted with an air gap between the plate and the magnet. Alternatively the magnet 6 may be fixedly mounted and the plate 7 rotatably mounted on the shaft. The roller 13 is mounted on a stationary shaft 19 with pair of flats at the ends to engage respective slots 21 in a housing 20 which also mounts the brake and is pivotally mounted at one side and resiliently urged at the other side towards said roller to urge said roller towards the load. In alternative embodiments Figs. 6 and 9 (not shown) the shaft (17) is driven by gear and pinion (25), (26) or by a chain (28) or a V-belt co-operating with respective sprockets (27), (29) or pulleys.
