Abstract

1,257,845 Photo-flash units. J. V. POWESKA and J. R. STONEHAM. Oct.13, 1969 [Oct.11, 1968], No.50223/69. Heading G2A. A photo-flash unit, having a plurality of percussion-ignitable flash-lamps 3 and individual reflectors 4 therefor, e.g. a flash-cube, has, associated with each lamp, a striker 12 for delivering a percussive blow to the lamp primer 9 when activated by a member outside the unit, e.g. a member 72 forming part of a camera on which the unit is mounted. As shown, a torsion spring 11 is provided for each adjacent pair of lamps, the spring being in the form of an inverted U, the legs of which are cranked so as to form two strikers 12, which are thus urged towards the primers 9. Stops 14 are provided in the paths of the strikers, upward movement of the member 72 through an aperture 15 in the unit base causing the striker 12 engaged thereby to ride up over the associated stop 14. The upper portion of each spring 11 is either mounted in a hollow sleeve 13 or is secured by a clamp, Fig.1b (not shown). In another embodiment, Fig.3 3 (not shown) four springs each in the form of an inverted U are provided. Four cantilever torsion springs are provided in a third embodiment, Fig.2 (not shown).
