Abstract

1,256,699. Temporary bridges. BUREAU D'ETUDES DANIEL. 20 Dec., 1968 [9 Jan., 1968], No. 61159/68. Heading E1G. A metal beam element 1 forming part of the carriageway of a temporary bridge or viaduct comprises a main central girder 9, Fig. 2, of inverted T form supporting a rectangular deck plate 6 reinforced by metal troughs 5 and by a plurality of transverse beams 4 spaced along its length, the beams 4 passing through the web of the girder 9. The depth of the girder web is reduced at each end, as shown in Fig. 5, the beam elements being releasably connected at their ends by vertical pegs 12, and being supported at or intermediate their ends by cross-members 11 of dismantleable gantries, Figs. 8-12 (not shown). Each gantry comprises two uprights (20) located at top and bottom by pegs. Each transverse beam 4 is supported by counterbraces 10 and carries lugs 8 for pin or bolt connection to adjacent beam elements or to edging elements 14 .. 18, Fig. 6. The endconnecting pegs 12, Fig. 5, may be provided on the gantry cross-piece 11 or, Fig. 7 (not shown), on a bolted-on connecting piece (19). The elements 1 may be straight or curved; may be 25m. long by 2.5cm. wide; and may have an epoxy resin top coating to form a road surface, the longitudinal and transverse joints 7, 13 being filled in situ. The bridge may have upper and lower decks, and may incorporate heating means.
