Abstract

1,256,627. Electromagnetic relay armature mounting. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. 4 Dec., 1969 [31 Jan., 1969], No. 5391/69. Heading H1N. The L-shaped armature 7 of a relay which may be a post-office relay has a portion 10 shaped so that the armature fits over a wedgeshaped projection 5 projecting from the end of the surface 2 of a magnetic yoke 1 and the armature is provided with a cut-out 12 at the joint of the link 7 thereof with the portion 10 and the armature is retained by a single strip 13 of resilient material which is supported by the yoke 1 and enters the armature cut-out 12.. During assembly of the relay the strip 13 is inserted under a fixed comb 3 until notches 18 engage shoulders 19 of the comb to engage a locating stud (not shown) with its recessed end 14. The link 9 of the armature is bificated to pass on either side of the fixed comb 3 which engages the free ends of two sets of fixed contact springs on either side thereof. Alternatively the end of the strip 13 may be bificated to retain two separate armatures (Fig. 2, not shown) or engage in separate cut-outs in a single armature. The cut-out or cut-outs may (as shown) be such that the strip 13 engages the knife-edge 6 or may extend only part way through the armature thickness. The end 15 of the strip 14 may be bent downward.
