Abstract

1,255,659. Vehicle wheels. J. W. & T. CONNOLLY Ltd. 22 Oct., 1969 [23 Oct., 1968], No. 50401/68. Headings B7C and B7D. A double wheel assembly for a vehicle comprises a front wheel 32, an auxiliary wheel 26 coaxial with wheel 32 and a coupling device 10, 12, 14 which is adjustable as to its axial length joining the two wheels together, whereby the axial distance between the wheels is adjustable. The shaft 12 of the device consists of telescoping parts 12a, 12b each having a wheel connecting flange 10, 14 respectively, and the parts are fixed together by bolts 48 passing through holes 38 in part 12a. Instead of the coupling being secured to the first wheel, it may be secured to the shaft which supports the wheel. In another arrangement, the bolts 48 are replaced by clamping screws engageable with recesses on part 12a.
