Abstract

[Also in Division B1] The peripheral portions of the bowl and cover parts of a desiccator are sealed in use against the opposing faces of portions 2 of an annular sealing strip 1, so that flange 3 lies outside the desiccator. In other embodiments (see Figs. 4, 5, not shown), flange 3 is not uniform but comprises castellated or bulbous projections. In a further embodiment, strip 1 is of H section so that, when closed, one flange lies inside and one outside the desiccator. Portion 2 of the sealing strip may be bored to provide a conduit (4) through which a vacuum may be applied (see Fig. 2, not shown). The strip is suitably made of a material having a Shore hardness of 45-50‹, preferably neoprene synthetic rubber.
