Abstract

1,255,232. Torque limiter. H. M. HOBSON Ltd. 28 May, 1970 [21 March, 1969], No. 15033/69. Heading F2E. To limit the torque transmitted from a shaft 14 to a shaft 16 or vice versa, the shafts are interconnected by two rows of balls 20, 21 engaging conical seats 22, 24 and 23, 25 in flanges on the shafts and in an intermediate member 19 spring-biased towards the balls so that on overload the balls ride up on their seats to force members 9 to the right against springs 17 to engage teeth 26 on the member with brake teeth 27 on a fixed flange 13 to stall the input shaft. The conical seats 22-25 may be shaped to provide different overload torques for rotation in opposite directions.
