Abstract

1,254,637. Piston rings. NIPPON PISTON RING K.K. 30 April, 1969, No. 22131/69. Heading F2T. In a piston ring assembly comprising an oil scraper ring 1 provided with a peripheral oil groove and circumferentially spaced oil drainage passages 11 and urged radially outwards by a coil spring expander 2 located in a groove 15 in the inner periphery of the ring 1, the working surface 3 of the ring 1 and the external surface of the expander 2 are each coated with a layer 3<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>1</SP> of chromium in turn coated with a layer 16, 17 of a thermoplastic or thermosetting resin, e.g. P.T.F.E., the groove 15 is coated with a layer 15<SP>1</SP> of chromium and the walls 12-14 of the oil groove and drainage passages are coated with a layer 16 of said thermoplastic or thermosetting resin.
