Abstract

1,254,437. Percussive tools. S. YAMADA. 28 Nov., 1968, No. 56607/68. Heading B4C. In a percussive tool blows are imparted to a tool bit 19 by a piston 14 which floats with a cylinder 9 reciprocated in an outer cylinder 8 by a crank shaft 3 and a connecting rod 12. The crank shaft is driven by an external motor e.g. an I.C. engine or electric motor via gears 1 which mesh with gear teeth 2 on the crank shaft. The inner cylinder has apertures 16, 16<SP>1</SP> to allow atmospheric air, introduced via an aperture (not shown) in the outer wall of cylinder 8 or in casing 6, annular space 17 and apertures 11c, to enter the spaces between the piston and end walls of the cylinder 9 and to act as a cushioning means during reciprocation to prevent impacting between the piston and inner cylinder. The crank-shaft has cut outs 4 therein.
