Abstract
1,254,036. Contact spring. SIEMENS A.G. 25 Sept., 1969 [26 Sept., 1968], No. 47207/69. Heading H2E. A contact spring assembly includes a contact spring fixed at the base 3, having legs 1, 2 with punched out contact tongues 6, 7. The upper portions (8, 9, Fig. 1a) are preloaded by centering ridges 11, 12. Upon insertion of a contact between tongues 6, 7 the contact force increases rapidly for little deflection until the ends of the legs lift from the ridges 11, 12 whence contact force increases less rapidly (Fig. 2). As displayed in Fig. 4 (not shown) the ends of the legs do not lift from the ridges 11, 12 until a taper free contact pin has more than half completed its deflection of the contact spring. Each leg may have a pair of contact tongues on either side of a central portion for preloading (Fig. 5), the tongues may project downwards towards the base 3 (Fig. 6) or may be separately formed (Fig. 7). In Figs. 8a, 8b (not shown) the contact tongues are formed in the legs (17, 18) and projections (e.g. 19, 20) punched from either side of each leg, and joined thereto near the free end provide the extensions for preloading, ridges (e.g. 16) being provided in the housing for this purpose. The preloading projections may bear directly against each other (23, 24, Fig. 9) and may provide further contact locations. Springs of the kind disclosed may be made with only one leg. The effect of variable contact dimensions on contact force is thus minimized.
