Abstract

1,253,590. Vacuum pumping arrangement. BALZERS PATENT-UND BETEILIGUNGS-A. G. Sept. 5, 1969 [Oct. 11, 1968], No. 44067/69. Heading F1N. A vacuum pumping arrangement comprises a line 3 for connection to a receptacle to be evacuated, first and second series connected vacuum pumps 1, 8 and a valve 12 in a by-pass line 10 bridging the first pump 1, the valve 12 being open at the commencement of pumping and being automatically closed when a predetermined degree of vacuum is produced. Thus, initially, gases are evacuated primarily via the by-pass 10 and the second pump 8. On production of a predetermined vacuum in the by-pass 10, a bellows 15 in communication therewith collapses to close the valve 12. Thereafter evacuation proceeds via both pumps.
