Abstract

1,253,396. Ordnance. RHEINMETALL G.m.b.H. 3 Nov., 1969 [8 Nov., 1968], No. 53683/69. Heading F3C. A gun comprises a sliding wedge breech block 16 an obtivator 1 of mushroom head shape which is mounted on a shaft 6 fast with the gun barrel and extending parallel to the axis of the gun barrel for movement longitudinally of and pivotally about the shaft 6. The obtivator 1 is provided with a helically toothed pinion 7 which co-operates with a rack 8 of a movable breech plate 13 for actuation of the obtivator. The sliding wedge breech block 16 carries primers and co-operates with the obtivator and breech plate 13 in the breech action of the gun, the breech plate 13 and breech block 16 being cam operated. The obtivator 1 is closed on counter recoil of the gun, the longitudinal movement of the obtivator taking place after the pivoting movement. The obtivator 1 is guided in its movements by a pin connected to the pinion or the obtivator working in a groove in the shaft 6, the groove having a straight portion and a part circumferential portion (Fig. 4, not shown). The breech is opened also during counter recoil.
