Abstract
1,252,871. Treating iron sludge. VEREINIGTE OSTEREICHISCHE EISEN-& STAHLWERKE A.G. 19 Jan., 1970 [30 Jan., 1969], No. 2407/70. Heading C1A. Iron containing sludge (consisting of iron oxides, sulphates and carbonates having particle sizes up to 0À5 mm.) is treated for subsequent sintering, by adding simultaneously 5-15% fine grained burnt lime, iron containing flue dust, and fine grained carbonaceous material and storing for one or two days while exposed to the air. The carbonaceous material may be coke breeze or fines or may be that present in blast furnace flue dust which is also used as the iron containing dust. Preferably sufficient iron containing dust is added to provide a moisture content of 8-12% in the stored mixture, and sufficient carbonaceous material to give the initial mixture a carbon content of 3-10%.
