Abstract

1,251,427. Peroxyketals. PENNWALT CORP. 7 May, 1969 [7 May, 1968], No. 23260/69. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3] Novel peroxyketals of the general formula wherein R 1 and Kg are each bivalent primary or secondary aliphatic radicals or bivalent secondary cycloaliphatic radicals and R 1 and R 2 may be joined to form a ring; Y is H, OH or -O-CO-R 3 ; Z is OH or -O-CO-R 3 ; R3 is an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aryl, alkoxy, amino or alkylamino radical; R 4 is H or an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic radical which may be joined to W to form a ring and W is H or an aliphatic or cyoloaliphatio radical which may be joined to R 4 to form a ring, and when R 4 is H and Y and Z are not OH, W can be by reduction of the corresponding peroxyketalcarboxylic acids and esters and by saponification of acyloxyperoxyketals. Amongst numerous compounds prepared in the examples are 2,2-bis- (t - butylperoxy) propyl caproate, 4,4-bis-(tbutylperoxy) - 1 - pentanol and 4,4 - bis - (1,1, 3,3 - tetramethylbutylperoxy) - pentyl benzoate, Acetonyl caproate is obtained by reacting sodium caproate caproic acid and chloroacetone.
