Abstract

1,250,910. Continuous casting; making sections and gear components; drawing. MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO K.K. 20 Dec., 1968 [21 Dec., 1967], No. 60685/68. Headings B3A, B3F and B3P. In a continuous casting process, the metal is introduced into the mould by electroslag remelting of a plurality of consumable electrodes 3 spaced across the cross-section of the mould cavity, and the shape of the mould cavity is such that when seen in vertical cross-section it has a parallel-sided portion b communicating with a lower divergent portion c. A slag coating 7 forms on the cast product and acts as a lubricant. The cast product may be heated by a heater 8 and cooled by water sprays or an air blast from a cooler 9. In the embodiment shown, a gear component 1 is cast in a tooth-shaped mould and is finished by drawing through a die 11.
