[Also in Division G2] The compounds of the formulµ are made by heating with acid sodium sulphite and caustic soda in aqueous methanol the respective 3 - [(1 - n - dodecyloxy) - tetraethoxy]- 1: 2 - epoxypropane and 3 - [p - tert - octylphenoxy)polyethoxy] - 1: 2 - epoxypropane having 4.5 ethoxy groups. 3 - [(1 - n - Dodecyloxy) - tetraethoxy] - 1: 2- epoxypropane is made by heating with caustic soda in aqueous dimethylsulphoxide a product obtained by reacting n-dodecyltetraethylene glycol ether, epichlorhydrin and boron fluoroetherate. 3 - [p - Tert - octylphenoxy)polyethoxy]- 1: 2 - epoxypropane having 4-5 ethoxy groups is similarly prepared.
