Abstract

1,250,197. Screw propellers. H. KUBOTA. 11 Oct., 1968 [12 Oct., 1967], No. 48408/68. Heading B7V. A freely rotatable counter-propeller 3 is of larger diameter than the (conventional) main propeller 2 and situated a short distance behind same. A flank 3b 1 of the blade receives the turbulent back-flow and is driven thereby; the surface 3b 2 acting to assist propulsion of the ship. Flank 3b 1 has a lower pitch than that of both the main propeller and the surface 3b 2 . The portion 3a of the counter-propeller, that lying outside the diameter of the main propeller, is narrow and the blade thickness increases suddenly between 3a and 3b and thereafter gradually narrows as shown.
