Abstract

In an electric spark ignited gas-fuelled cigarette lighter, wherein movement of an actuating member 10 opens a gas valve and produces the spark, the front end of the actuating member occupies the ignition zone 12 and overlies the burner nozzle 11 in the rest position, and is withdrawn to reveal the nozzle and to provide a boundary on one side of the ignition zone, at least one other side of that zone being completely open to the atmosphere. The front end of the actuating member may house one of the sparking electrodes 14, surrounded by insulating material 15, so that the electrode may be cleaned when the lighter is closed.
