Abstract

1,249,342. Clamps. H. W. FUTTER. 7 Jan., 1970 [8 Oct., 1968], No. 47710/68. Heading B4W. [Also in Division E2] A G-clamp comprises one or more screw actuated clamping heads each provided with a removable cap constituting the gripping surface thereof. The clamp consists of a frame 1 with clamping screws 3 and 7 each with a head 8 and a boss 5 aligned with the screw 3 the heads and boss being covered by a detachable cap 10 of plastics or rubber. The screws have tongues or pins 9 with ends turned over for retaining a head 8 of metal or plastics, or the screws are threaded so as to engage a threaded base or internally bored projection on the head. The caps 10 comprise a disc with side walls terminating in an inner lip 12 for engaging the heads 8. The cap for the boss 5 has a pin 14 which may be screw threaded to engage in a bore 6 in the frame and one wall 11 is cut away to accommodate part of the frame. In modifications the operative surface of the caps is concave, or has a conical recess or projection, or has circular ribbing or is non-ribbed transversely.
