Abstract

1406064 Cutting tools SECO TOOLS AB 15 Nov 1972 [21 Dec 1971] 52729/72 Heading B3B A cutting tool comprises a cutting insert 2 having a through bore 20 and which is clampable against two side faces of a recess 13 in a tool holder 1, the holder having a first bore extending from the base of the recess and having a threaded region 111 a second base 14 in the holder intersecting the first bore at an acute angle and extending inwardly and downwardly with respect to the holder and being of larger diameter than the first bore. A clamping pin 4 is provided having a bead portion 45 for engagement in the bore in the insert when located in the recess, a threaded portion 41 for engagement in the threaded bore 111 in the holder and an enlarged intermediate portion 44 to engage in the inclined bore 14. In use the clamping pin is screwed into the first bore in the holder with its head portion 45 in the bore 20 of the insert the screw action causing egnagement between the intermediate portion 44 and the bore 14 which causes the pin to tilt by way of the normal thread clearance and hence to move the head portion laterally to clamp the insert against the sides of the recess. In the embodiment described an insert seating member 3 is provided on the bottom of the recess and which is retained by a flange 42 on the pin 4 irrespective of the positioning of the insert or its removal.
