Abstract

[Also in Division E1] In an agricultural spraying or road sprinkling apparatus for use with a tractor or like vehicle, a positive displacement pump 2, Fig. 2, is driven from the vehicle power take-off shaft and delivers through an outlet pipe 5 leading, through a valve 8, to the spraying tube, and passages 6, 9 leading to the reservoir 1 are connected to the pipe 5, the passage 6 containing a bypass valve 7 which opens when the valve 8 closes, and the passage 9 containing a manually-operated valve 10 for controlling and indicating the spray volume per unit surface area in accordance with vehicle engine speed and gear ratio. The control valve 10 may be a lift valve, or a throttle valve (Fig. 7, not shown) with an angularly adjustable body (25) having an annular passage (23) communicating with the inlet and with a tapering groove (27) that, depending upon the angular position of the body (25), presents a variable cross section to the outlet (28) so that, at constant static pressure, the quantity discharged through the valve varies as the cross section. In another embodiment, (Fig. 3 not shown) the valve 8 is omitted and a further passage (13) to the reservoir is provided containing a shut-off valve (14) and a further control valve (15), the output pipe 5 leading to a distributor head 16 from which branch pipes lead to two separate sets of spraying nozzles. The further control valve (15) regulates the output when one set of nozzles is sealed off by means of a respective cut-off valve (18). In a modification of this (Fig. 4 not shown), the branch pipes (17) have two-way valves (19) so that the flow therethrough can be directed to the reservoir via a return pipe containing the further control valve, the pipe 13 and valve 14 being omitted. The control valves each carry a scale co-operating with a pointer of a hand lever and may be assembled in a common housing. The spraying apparatus may be mounted on the vehicle.
