Abstract

1,247,191. Apparatus for filling and sealing packages formed from heat sealable tubes. AUTOPACK Ltd. 17 Sept., 1969 [19 July, 1968], No. 34551/68. Heading B8C. In an apparatus for forming a plurality of separate, filled and sealed, packages from an elongated flat heat-sealable sleeve 10, e.g. of polyethylene, the sleeve 10, mounted on a roller 11, is fed successively, and intermittently, to a cutter 15, feed rolls 13, 14, over a former 12 to a sealing and cutter means 19, for forming and separating individual packages. The cutter 15 forms, at pre-determined intervals, slits 18 across one side of the sleeve and the former 12 has a waisted portion 12c and at least one side wall 126 which progressively increases in height from the upstream end of the former in order to open each slit 18 at a goods filling station 16. When the drive of the rollers 13, 14 is arrested a fresh slit 18 is cut adjacent the input end of the former 12 and the slit 18 adjacent the waisted portion 12c of the former 12 is distorted and opened by the former 12 in co-operation with a shoot 16 as it moves forward to supply goods through the slit 18 after the means 19 has been actuated to seal and cut off the bag already filled and seal the lower end of the bag being filled. The upper end of the former 12 is turned over the roller 13 and has a cut-away portion which allows the rollers 13, 14 to as-operate.
