A wax coating or'impregnating composition consists of 75-98% by wt. of (A) a paraffin wax and/or petrolatum derived from mineral oil and/or tar refining processes and having an oil content up to 30% by wt. and solidification point of 40-80‹ C. and 25-2% by wt. of (B) a polyethylene wax of molecular weight 1000- 10,000 and/or a wax-like ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer having a vinyl acetate content of 15- 40% by wt. and a Ring and Ball softening point of 80-160‹ C. The paraffin may be slack wax.
