Abstract

1,245,324. Gas blowing devices. DRESSER INDUSTRIES Inc. 21 Nov., 1969 [3 Dec., 1968], No. 57209/69. Heading F4B. An immersion device for blowing gas into molten metal comprises a gas supply pipe 12 covered by refractory sleeves 16, and a blowing head having an outer impervious refractory shell 18 surrounding a pipe 28 with peripheral flange 30 feeding an inner porous plug 34. The shell 16 comprises a high alumina (at least 85%) refractory bonded with 2%-15% P 2 O 5 in the form of orthophosphoric acid and the plug 34 comprises calcined South American bauxite with about 2% by weight of bentonite and the phosphate binder. The plug material is ground to give a finished porosity of about 25%.
