Abstract

1,245,068. Helically wound pipe. TIGERS RUBBER CO. Ltd. 27 Jan., 1970 [4 Feb., 1969; 27 May, 1969], No. 3970/70. Heading F2P. An apparatus for the manufacture of hose from a tacky synthetic tape T, e.g. of PVC, comprises a plurality of cantilevered shaping rolls 3 in a circular array driven for rotation about their own axes at the same speed and a pressing roller 4 adapted to rotate opposite to the rollers 3 at a known speed. At least one of the rollers has an enlarged portion at the cantilevered end providing an annular guiding surface for the tape T to be fed into the space 9 so as to form an integral continuous hose H. As shown, the shaping rolls have enlarged heads 10 each providing an annular radial guiding surface; the axial lengths of the heads may be so dimensioned that they increase over the array in the direction of the tape movement by an increment corresponding to the width of the tape divided by the number of shaping rollers. A second embodiment (Fig. 1, not shown) has an enlarged portion formed at the cantilevered end of the pressing roller 4, to guide the tape T to follow a helical course. The space 9 is adjustable by movement of roll 4 by handwheel 8.
